The purpose of this News Commentary Section is to assist the faithful in recognizing the signs and lies of These End Times. Somehow, many self appointed Shepherds of These Times are trying to convince the faithful that the Apocalypse will be, using street slang, "a piece of cake" for them and "hell" for all others. They are led to believe that if they "do this" and "do that" they do not have a thing to worry about (of course, so long as that between the "do this" and the "do that" they send in a donation).

Others lead the faithful to believe that "All Is Well" and will continue to be, of course, as long as those donations keep coming in...

Microsoft rushes to fix browser after attacks; no fix for Windows XP users. (1)

Microsoft Corp is rushing to fix a bug in its widely used Internet Explorer web browser after a computer security firm disclosed the flaw over the weekend, saying hackers have already exploited it in attacks on some U.S. companies.

PCs running Windows XP will not receive any updates fixing that bug when they are released, however, because Microsoft stopped supporting the 13-year-old operating system earlier this month. Security firms estimate that between 15 and 25 percent of the world's PCs still run Windows XP.

Microsoft disclosed on Saturday its plans to fix the bug in an advisory to its customers posted on its security website, which it said is present in Internet Explorer versions 6 to 11. Those versions dominate desktop browsing, accounting for 55 percent of the PC browser market, according to tech research firm NetMarketShare.
Cybersecurity software maker FireEye Inc said that a sophisticated group of hackers have been exploiting the bug in a campaign dubbed "Operation Clandestine Fox."

miguel de Portugal comments: More reason for all who are using Windoows XP to migrate away from Microsoft Browser to Mozilla  Firefox browser.

Officials Say Russian Hackers May Retaliate for Sanctions. (1)

U.S. officials and security specialists are warning that Russian hackers may respond to new sanctions by attacking the computer networks of U.S. banks and other companies.

Cybersecurity specialists consider Russian hackers among the world's best at infiltrating networks and say evidence exists that they already have inserted malicious software on computers in the U.S.

"A cyber-attack is a real concern that we all need to have," Smocer said. "Nation states' ability to launch cyber-attacks is certainly real nowadays, and so in any conflict, I think that the possibility exists as we worry about escalation."

miguel de Portugal comments: The word from here is that if you are using the Russian Kaspersky Internet Security products, remove the program completely from your system and replace it with another product.

Remember what we said not long ago - Kaspersky has become "the reference" a far as internet protection on a worldwide scale. Now we see why.

China Set To Overtake US As World's Largest Economy While India Pulls Ahead Of Japan To Become Third-Largest Economy. (1)
China is on track to overtake the U.S. as the world's largest economy while India has already moved ahead of Japan to become the third-largest economy, according to a report released Tuesday by the World Bank.

"The United States remained the world's largest economy, but it was closely followed by China when measured using PPPs. India was now the world's third-largest economy, moving ahead of Japan," the ICP report said, according to CNBC, adding: "The results indicate that only a small number of economies have the greatest shares of world GDP. However, the shares of large economies such as China and India have more than doubled relative to that of the United States."

Homeland Security's top watchdog altered reports, Senate committee says. (1)

The top watchdog for the Department of Homeland Security altered and delayed investigations at the request of senior administration officials, compromising his independent role as an inspector general, according to a new report from a Senate oversight panel.

Charles Edwards, who served as acting DHS inspector general from 2011 through 2013, routinely shared drinks and dinner with department leaders and gave them inside information about the timing and findings of investigations, according to the report from an oversight panel of the Homeland Security and Government Operations Committee.

Edwards' actions occurred while he was seeking President Barack Obama's nomination to be the permanent inspector general overseeing DHS, the third-largest government agency, with a $39 billion budget and more than 225,000 employees.

"We found that Mr. Edwards was a compromised inspector general . . . who was not exercising real oversight," said Sen. Ronald Johnson of Wisconsin, the ranking Republican on the Financial and Contracting Oversight subcommittee, which led the investigation of Edwards's tenure. "Any report generated out of his office would be suspect."

AP Survey On Faith And Science Reveals That Science Is Often Trumped By Religious Belief

Believers don't buy the Big Bang, God-less evolution or a human responsibility for global warming. Actually, neither do many Americans.

But a new survey by The Associated Press found that religious identity - particularly evangelical Protestant - was one of the sharpest indicators of skepticism toward key issues in science.

The survey presented a series of statements that several prize-winning scientist say are facts. However, the research shows that confidence in their correctness varies sharply among U.S. adults.

On the flip side, most people are pretty sure the "universe is so complex, there must be a supreme being guiding its creation" - 54 percent of all Americans, and 87 percent of evangelicals.

Another recent survey on "religious understandings of science," by Rice University sociologist Elaine Howard Ecklund, found that the two worldviews are not always in opposition.

Ecklund's study for the Dialogue on Science, Ethics and Religion program at the American Association for the Advancement of Science compared views of 10,000 U.S. adults, including scientists, evangelicals and the general public.

She found that nearly 36 percent of scientists have no doubt about God's existence and that they are about as likely as most Americans overall (about one in five) to attend weekly religious services.

However, there's still significant distrust: 22 percent of scientists and 20 percent of the general population say religious people are hostile to science.

Most of those people (52 percent) sided with religion.

miguel de Portugal comments: It is a shame that our document The True History of Creation has not contributed enough to undo what the forced-down-one's-throat Evangelization and untold abuses have done pushing many away from God, thus the reality of Creation.

But then again.... For the heart of this people is grown gross, and with their ears they have been dull of hearing, and their eyes they have shut: lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them. Shockwave findings set to rewrite scientific theories - Study of gamma-ray bursts afterglow surprises scientists. (1)
Research from an international team of scientists led by the University of Leicester has discovered for the first time that one of the most powerful events in our universe – Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRB) – behave differently than previously thought.

The study, published in the prestigious scientific journal Nature, uses evidence from observation of a GRB to rule out most of the existing theoretical predictions concerning the afterglow of the explosions.

miguel de Portugal comments: One - Again we see established - set in concrete - scientific theories debunked.

Two - This new knowledge is not necessarily  "good news". The afterglow is exactly what it means - the radiation flowing from the source after the initial burst. It seems that is greater and more varied than originally thought.

93 Percent Of Straight Men In This Study Said They've Cuddled With Another Guy. (1)

Yes, straight men sleep together. That's according to a new study out of Britain on the changing social habits of heterosexual males.

Published in the journal of Men and Masculinities in March, the study revealed that 98 percent of the study's participants - all white, college-age male athletes - have shared a bed with another guy.

In addition, 93 percent also reported having spooned or cuddled with another man.

miguel de Portugal comments: As we stated in our document about homosexuality (2):

The true problems lie in:

1.- The persecution of homosexuals; and
2.- The promotion of the proliferation of homosexual lifestyle.

What we see in the above survey is precisely the result of the promotion of homosexual lifestyle. With that survey out, most of the remaining 7 percent of the men who have not cuddled with another male most certainly will try it!

Having studied, and lived in the dorms, of an all male military university - in the middle of nowhere - it is not difficult for me to guess what would have been the level of sexual activity there with today's mentality. We could probably write a book on this but the whole thing is so troubling that we have said enough to make our point.

Netanyahu "Asked Rabbi to Allow Giving David's Tomb to Vatican"

An MK Says Netanyahu has contacted the Chief Sephardic Rabbi, asked for halakhic permission to make the move.

A Knesset Member said Thursday that Chief Sephardic Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef told him that the Prime Minister's bureau contacted
him and asked to grant halakhic permission for Israel to hand over the Tomb of David to the Vatican.

The startling news was revealed by the Knesset Member during a tour of the Tomb of Daid by four MKs. [MK = Member of the Knesset (Israeli Parliament)]

The MKs were unanimous in declaring that they intend to do everything within their power to forestall any attempt to hand over the Tomb to the Vatican. There are also reports that not just the Tomb, but the entire Mount Zion compound is up for transfer. The MKs made clear that the zone is under Israeli sovereignty and will remain so.

There have been reports, recently, of a secret negotiation channel between the Vatican and the Israeli government, regarding the Tomb – and especially its second floor, which the Vatican calls the "Room of the Last Supper" – and the Mount Zion compound.

miguel de Portugal comments: The above news seem completely surreal, not to mention unreal! Yet, as the saying goes, "where there is smoke there is fire".
Upon our request to follow up on this to a close cooperator, she found some news from January 31, 2013, that may clarify and confirm the surreal news report. The details follow....

Pope to get seat over the Tomb of King David. (1)

Outgoing Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon is leaving his mark on Jerusalem. After years of negotiations with the Vatican over property and tax issues, it seems that an historic breakthrough is near

However, there are conflicting and disturbing reports regarding the status of the "Last Supper Room" (also referred to as the "Upper Room", "Cenacle Shrine" or "Coenaculum"), which sits above the traditional Tomb of King David and is a central part of  the Diaspora Yeshiva grounds on Mt. Zion.

For many years the Catholic church has been vying for ownership of the room which is considered by many Christians to be the traditional site of the location of the last supper. The room itself is a 12th century Crusader structure, built on top of the traditional Tomb of King David.

Whereas The Jerusalem Post claims that the two sides have "essentially decided to agree to disagree on the matter", Israel Hayom is reporting that the agreement will grant the Pope "an official seat" in the Upper Room, as well as giving the Vatican "a special modicum of control over the site".  Algemeiner reports that Israel "did not give up sovereignty", but "will allow the Vatican control over the site".

The Israeli Foreign Ministry makes no mention of Mt. Zion in their report of January 29th.

There is something perversely wicked to grant Bergoglio "a seat" above/over "the Tomb of King David".

We are awaiting some first hand confirmations through personal channels on this matter.

The message of hope from an Arkansas tornado victim who lost both young sons's: 'Show them what my God can overcome,'  (1)

Daniel and April Smith lost sons Cameron, 9, and Tyler, 7, when the tornado hit Vilonia, Ark.

Sowards sobbed for two days imagining that her friend and fellow church member would never be the same after this trauma.

"But within 10 minutes of arriving at the hospital, I realized she was the same strong person, even stronger," Sowards told Yahoo News. "She said, 'I'm going to miss them so bad, but I know that they're OK. I don't understand this, but I trust God.' "

"She is in a tremendous amount of emotional pain," Sowards said. "But she is not in despair. There's a difference, and the difference is Christ."

Before leaving, Sowards asked Smith, 28, if she wanted her to take her photo in case she someday wanted to go public with how she persevered. The grieving mother agreed with one stipulation.

"Show them now," Smith said from her hospital bed. "Show them what my God can overcome. Show them now."

miguel de Portugal comments: This is the faith that we talk about that all should strive to attain with the Grace of God.

Most may not see it now but that is about the highest priority most Christians should have. It is that kind of faith that will be needed to face what is already at our doors.... and it is not a tornado!

Commenting on News Regarding Ukraine

Let us keep in mind the following as we see the "Games Nation Play" up to the "Push the Button" point.

1. Big Money will not allow important financial sanctions to be imposed upon Russia.
2. Russia controls all the vehicular communications with the International Space Station.
3. Russia is the host of Edward Snowden who has the "Keys" to the US National Security.
4. Russia has tactical nuclear missiles in Cuba since 2012.
5. Putin dreams of a resurrected Soviet Union and will not even stop his advance once he gets that.
6. There is no leader in the West that has what it takes to stand up to Putin. Let us not forget that Putin was a KGB official. Intrigue flows in his veins.

Conclusion: Putin has the West over the proverbial barrel and the only real way for the West to have a fighting chance to stop him would be in a race to see how fast a barrage of nuclear missiles can be launched before Russia can respond with an equivalent amount. The only advantage the West has is that Putin is sure that the West will not fire first. That is his achilles heel.

Since most do not believe that prayer can stop it - thus will not pray for a solution - only an unprecedented natural global catastrophe will break that deadly cycle and gift us with a Green Apocalypse.

Young Blood Restores Old Mice. (1)

Blood from young mice boosted the memory and muscles of old mice, scientists reported in a series of experiments that give new meaning to the phrase "young blood."

The experiments, done by teams at Stanford and Harvard Universities, point to possible new ways to treat diseases of aging, from Alzheimer’s to heart disease. And they're hoping they can find what it is in the blood so that people won't have to resort to blood transfusions to do it.

The studies, published in the journals Nature Medicine and Science, suggest that whatever it is that rejuvenates muscles, brain cells and perhaps other functions in the body circulates in the blood when animals are young, and stops circulating as they age.

Both teams started with very simple approaches - they transfused blood from young mice into older mice.

miguel de Portugal comments: Considering the level of moral decadence the world has reached and the recent popularity of vampire movies, with the above scientific "breakthrough", it will not be long before rich older individual will start buying kids to steal their blood.

Nigerian Islamists threaten to "sell" 230 abducted girls. (1)

Nigerian Islamist militant group Boko Haram has publicly threatened to "sell" the 230 schoolgirls the group abducted on 14 April from their school in Chibok, in the northern state of Borno. The group's leader, Abubakar Shekau, sent a video to news organizations, in which he said for the first time that his group had taken the girls.

In the video, Shekau said the girls should not have been in school in the first place, but rather should get married. "God instructed me to sell them, they are his properties and I will carry out his instructions," he said. The abduction has led to mass protests against the Nigerian government, and its inability to offer protection to Nigerian citizens in the country's north-east states, where most of Bomko Haram’s attacks occur. The militants' attacks have killed thousands since 2009.

Coca-Cola says it will drop a controversial ingredient from all its drinks that contain it, not just Powerade. (1)

The Atlanta-based company says brominated vegetable oil is still being used in some flavors of Fanta and Fresca, as well as several citrus-flavored fountain drinks. The change will apply to its drinks globally, meaning Canada and Latin America are phasing out the ingredient as well.

A spokesman for Coca-Cola, Josh Gold, noted that the ingredient is not used in many countries.

Brominated vegetable oil, or BVO, had been the target of petitions on by a Mississippi teenager, who wanted it out of Gatorade and Powerade. The Associated Press reported on Sunday that Coca-Cola is dropping BVO from Powerade, following a similar move by PepsiCo's Gatorade last year.

The recently discovered asteroid known as 2014 HL129 approached within 186,000 miles of the planet as it was making its nearest approach on Saturday morning.

Just two years ago - after a 25-year campaign that vaccinated billions of children - the paralyzing virus was near eradication; now health officials say that goal could evaporate if swift action is not taken.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has given his support to the Ukrainian presidential election on May 25. (1)

Putin asked "pro-Russian representatives in south-eastern Ukraine, supporters of federalisation, to postpone the independence referendum scheduled for May 11 in order to create the necessary conditions for dialogue".

The Russian president appeared to offer a more conciliatory tone than he has used in recent weeks. He said that his country's troops had been pulled back from the border with Ukraine after 'constant concerns' over their deployment.

However, NATO has said it has "no indication of a change in the position of Russian military forces".

Vatican defrocks over 800 priests in last decade for child abuse. (1)

The figures were revealed during a second day of grilling by a UN committee monitoring implementation of the organisations treaty against torture.

Responding to accusations that it had turned a blind eye to child abuse in the 1960s and 70s, it admitted mistakes had been made but procedures to deal with the problem had now been modernised.

The Vatican maintains that fifty years ago the culture at the time viewed paedophiles as people who could be treated psychologically rather than as criminals – that was an error said the Vatican's ambassador to Geneva.

Critics claim that predator priests are still being moved to other parishes or even abroad to protect them against criminal charges.

miguel de Portugal comments: The issue is not whether the disorder could be treated or not psychologically. The issue was, is and will ever be defined by Jesus:

But he that shall scandalize one of these little ones that believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone should be hanged about his neck, and that he should be drowned in the depth of the sea. [Matthew 18:6]

If, on top of that, they played the "Shuffle The Priest" game, they (the Administrators responsible) are the ones who, unquestionably, are the criminals and should be sent to the penitentiary. All of them! Maybe then they will have enough time to read what Jesus taught His followers instead of using His Holy Name to rob the faithful of innocence, faith and money!

It is truly difficult for me to think of any one group of individuals for whom I would have greater disdain (2) than what we feel for the Administrators responsible for these crimes and similar ones committed over the last 1600 years.

Nonetheless, and precisely because of that, we must pray for their conversion. That same Jesus, Whom we quote above, also said:

But I say to you, Love your enemies: do good to them that hate you: and pray for them that persecute and calumniate you: That you may be the children of your Father who is in heaven, who maketh his sun to rise upon the good, and bad, and raineth upon the just and the unjust.

For if you love them that love you, what reward shall you have? do not even the publicans this? And if you salute your brethren only, what do you more? do not also the heathens this?  Be you therefore perfect, as also your heavenly Father is perfect. [Matthew 5:44-48]

All Christians must strive to live - by word and deed - what they claim to believe, otherwise they will see what Jesus meant when He said:

Not every one that saith to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven: but he that doth the will of my Father who is in heaven, he shall enter into the kingdom of heaven. Many will say to me in that day: Lord, Lord, have not we prophesied in thy name, and cast out devils in thy name, and done many miracles in thy name?  And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, you that work iniquity.  Every one therefore that heareth these my words, and doth them, shall be likened to a wise man that built his house upon a rock, and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and they beat upon that house, and it fell not, for it was founded on a rock. Exorcism conference underway in Rome. (1)

Catholic prelates from 33 countries are in Italy for the ninth annual conference on exorcism.

'Exorcism and Prayer for Liberation' is on through May 10 and is expected to draw 200 participants from countries as far afield as Australia and South Korea. Events are spread between Rome and Bologna.

"It's devoted mostly to priests who are the first to learn the ministry of exorcism, but not only to them," said Father Cesare Truqui, an exorcist from the Legionaries of Christ, which is organizing the conference together with Catholic organization GRIS.

"A priest is usually side by side with a group of laypeople who help," he told Vatican Radio. "They can include psychologists, psychiatrists or doctors, but also regular people like professionals and housekeepers, even during preliminary consultations to see if it's indeed a case of possession or not".

"Exploring the theme of demonic possession does not mean causing general paranoia, but to creating awareness of the existence of the devil and of the possibility of possession...You can fight it with God, with prayer, with Marian devotion".

Truqui noted that Pope Francis in his April 11 homily admonished the faithful to "learn to fight the devil...who exists even in the 21st century".

miguel de Portugal comments: First of all, the fact that a priest from Maciel's Legionaries of Christ is organizing the conference is as close to religious black humor as one can get. An escapee of Regnum Christi, the lay arm of the Legionaries of Christ, is the author of a document that we have had on line for many years. Take a look at it (2) and you will see how qualified any priest of Maciel's group is to teach anything worthwhile.

Secondly - What creating an awareness of the existence of the devil, that is, focusing on his existence, does is opening the door of the soul of the focused individual for an easy entry by demonic entities who will occupy those Filters that we have written about (3).

Scientists at The Scripps Research Institute, or TSRI, in San Diego, California, have created a new living organism whose genetic code includes six letters, instead of four, and that added pair of DNA letters, researchers say, is "not found in nature."

In a study, published in Nature on Wednesday, scientists described the new bacterium as the first life form to contain artificial genetic building blocks.

Even as U.S. Hispanics Lift Catholicism, Many Are Leaving the Church Behind. (1)

By all accounts, Hispanics are the future of Catholicism in America. Already, most young Roman Catholics in the United States are Hispanic, and soon that will be true of the overall Catholic population. But the Hispanicization of American Catholicism faces a big challenge: Hispanics are leaving Catholicism at a striking rate.

It has been clear for years that Catholicism, both in the United States and Latin America, has been losing adherents to evangelical Protestantism, and, in particular, to Pentecostal and other charismatic churches. But as an increasing percentage of the American Hispanic population is made up of people born in this country, a simultaneous, competing form of faith-switching is also underway: More American Hispanics are leaving Catholicism and becoming religiously unaffiliated.

The seemingly mind-bending result: Even as a rising percentage of American Catholics is Hispanic, a falling percentage of American Hispanics is Catholic.

Nearly one-quarter of Hispanics in the United States are former Catholics, according to a poll released Wednesday by the Pew Research Center. By comparison, about 10 percent of all Americans are former Catholics, according to a Pew survey released in 2008; the difference is partly explained by the fact that a much higher fraction of Hispanics started as Catholics.

The sale of falsified prescription-type drugs is already 25 times more lucrative that the traditional drug trafficking? (1)

Not even cocaine offers such profits: 75,000 million (75 billion) dollars a year.

If that were not bad enough, users are placing their lives on the line since many of those falsified prescription-type drugs contain harmful chemicals.

miguel de Portugal comments: While it is hard to slow down traditional drug trafficking due to the many hands the drug goes through - from the harvest or lab to the final user - most, if not all, prescription-type drugs are sold directly over the internet.

Any and all internet traffic can be easily tracked down from recipient back to source as well as source to recipient. In addition, those prescription-type drugs must be paid on-line which usually requires credit cards, Pay-Pal or similar services.

That means that such business can be essentially shut down very quickly if the authorities really wanted it but, then again, as the saying goes.... Money talks and most listen!

Identity Thieves Use Stolen Information to Purchase $1.3M House. (1)

Lawyer DeMonica Gladney always thought she took the proper precautions to protect her credit and avoid identity theft. She regularly checked her credit report and her bank statements for irregularities. She even was wary of online banking.
"I preferred to be the old-fashioned person where you mail in the bill and put the check in with the bill," she said.
So when she tried to refinance her home in 2007, it came as a big surprise when her credit report included numerous credit applications for which she had not applied. According to Gladney, identity thieves took out roughly $10,000 worth of credit accounts in her name and applied for "seven or eight" retail credit cards.
It all came to a head when Gladney was notified that a $1.3 million home in a gated Nevada community - which she had allegedly purchased - was about to go into foreclosure.
Gladney had never even been to Nevada, let alone purchased property there, but the lender had records showing that she both lived and worked in the state. "I told [the mortgage company] that I couldn't afford this place even if I worked two jobs," she said.

A reminder about The Heartbleed Bug (1) (and a partial remedy in the "comments" section)

The Heartbleed Bug is a serious vulnerability in the popular OpenSSL cryptographic software library. This weakness allows stealing the information protected, under normal conditions, by the SSL/TLS encryption used to secure the Internet. SSL/TLS provides communication security and privacy over the Internet for applications such as web, email, instant messaging (IM) and some virtual private networks (VPNs).

The Heartbleed bug allows anyone on the Internet to read the memory of the systems protected by the vulnerable versions of the OpenSSL software. This compromises the secret keys used to identify the service providers and to encrypt the traffic, the names and passwords of the users and the actual content. This allows attackers to eavesdrop on communications, steal data directly from the services and users and to impersonate services and users.

miguel de Portugal comments: While reviewing Internet Security literature I found out that this security breach has been going on for years. In other words, Mr. Hacker has had years to plunge in the depth of half a million servers mining for free "gold".

Of course, the first step to do would be to change every password in one's agenda which may be quite a chore for many. Assuming that one does this, there is still the risk of connecting for the first time with/through a server that  was originally infected and is yet to be declared "clean" .

God came to our rescue again! Within the same literature we found a way that would provide the Internaut with some measure of safety - an alert.

It is an application, only available for Firefox and Chrome browsers, that will alert one if the "https" page accessed was/is not clean. In that case it is best not to enter any personal and/or financial data on that Site. The application provides a colored heart icon somewhere on the above portion of your browser window. If the heart icon is green - no problem; if it becomes yellow - caution!; if it turns red - warning - move on!

Of course we cannot certify that the warning system is perfect but it seems to be the best available. We have installed it in our systems and all that we are doing now is sharing with you what we found and believed to be credible enough to use. We cannot be responsible - directly or indirectly - for how well it will serve you.

You may access the applications by going to for Firefox browser users, and to  for Chrome browser users. There is no application like that available for Microsoft browser.

Once you access the page you will be given the instructions as what to do.

Satanic Prayer Will Open Florida Town Council Meeting If Chaz Stevens Has His Way. (1)

Just three days after the Supreme Court ruled that sectarian legislative prayer was constitutional in Greece v. Galloway, a man in Deerfield Beach, Florida, requested to open a session of the town council or the Florida State Senate with a Satanic prayer.

Chaz Stevens, a Satanist, explains his logic:

I just want equal billing. We allow various religious nutjobs to give a prayer. They pray to Jesus who is make-believe, god who is make-believe, why not Satan who is make-believe? Why discriminate against one make-believe god over another? Satan and I are being circumvented. The city of Deerfield Beach has once again declared war on religion - and this time it's Satanism.

Pope Francis Calls For 'Legitimate Redistribution' Of Wealth To The Poor. (1)

Pope Francis called Friday for governments to redistribute wealth to the poor in a new spirit of generosity to help curb the "economy of exclusion" that is taking hold today.

Francis made the appeal during a speech to U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and the heads of major U.N. agencies who are meeting in Rome this week.

miguel de Portugal comments: The Roman Catholic Church is probably richer than most nations of the world - and we are talking about wealth in real estate only, not works of art. Logically. who is going to take this man entreats on behalf of the poor seriously?

Did he divest the Church and Jesuits of their real estate holdings in Argentina and used it to feed the poor?

Could it be that he has never heard that "Charity starts at home"?

What Next for Eurovision Winner Conchita Wurst, Austria's Bearded Lady? (1)

The Eurovision song contest turned political as current events in Ukraine and Russia's anti-gay policies came to the fore.

Russia's entry, the Tolmachevy Sisters, were greeted with boos from the audience during the results.

The biggest roars of approval came for Eurovision winner Conchita Wurst from Austria. The 25-year-old drag queen seemed lost for words at the overwhelming support, receiving 290 ponts for her song Rise Like a Phoenix.

At the winner's press conference, Wurst said: "I really dream of a world where you don't have to talk about your sexuality, where you are from. Tonight we really showed that we are all part of the same family, not of separate communities. I know it sounds cheesy but: we are one!"

Overwhelmed at the occasion, Wurst shed tears during the live show. "I cried because I am so happy and so thankful, and I said to myself:  'Please, just one time, let me be the one going for gold.'"

miguel de Portugal comments: The promotion of homosexuality has taken a significant leap. Eurovision is followed more closely by Europeans than the "political games" Eurozone leaders play.

Once again, the issue is not homosexuality but its promotion in the most perverse way. Take a look at Mr/s. Wurst picture, now, remove the make up and just look at his head - face, beard and hair. The perfect image for an actor playing a movie about Jesus.

By the way, I attended a female impersonator show in Las Vegas in the late sixties which was stupendous and, years later, maybe a couple more in Houston. All professional and not offensive in any way. They were performances of talented individuals which I never thought of as a promotion of homosexuality. As a matter of fact, if it had been that type of entry, we would have considered it in perfect step with the various presentations one traditionally see in Eurovision.

Mr/s. Wurst situation is totally different and we find it revolting.

Who/what is Boko Haram, those responsible for the abduction of over 200 school girls? (1)

The Congregation of the People of Tradition for Proselytism and Jihad, known by its Hausa name Boko Haram  is a group and militant organization based in the northeast of Nigeria, north Cameroon and Niger.

Founded by Mohammed Yusuf in 2002, the organization seeks to establish a "pure" Islamic state ruled by sharia, putting a stop to what it deems Westernization.

The group is known for attacking Christians, Muslims and government targets, bombing churches, mosques, schools and police stations, and kidnapping western tourists, but has also assassinated members of the Islamic establishment who have condemned their operations over the years.

Violence linked to the Boko Haram insurgency has resulted in an estimated 10,000 deaths between 2002 and 2013.

NASA-UCI Study Indicates Loss of West Antarctic Glaciers Appears Unstoppable. (1)

A new study by researchers at NASA and the University of California, Irvine, finds a rapidly melting section of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet appears to be in an irreversible state of decline, with nothing to stop the glaciers in this area from melting into the sea.

The study presents multiple lines of evidence, incorporating 40 years of observations that indicate the glaciers in the Amundsen Sea sector of West Antarctica "have passed the point of no return," according to glaciologist and lead author Eric Rignot, of UC Irvine and NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California. The new study has been accepted for publication in the journal Geophysical Research Letters.

These glaciers already contribute significantly to sea level rise, releasing almost as much ice into the ocean annually as the entire Greenland Ice Sheet.

They contain enough ice to raise global sea level by 4 feet (1.2 meters) and are melting faster than most scientists had expected. Rignot said these findings will require an upward revision to current predictions of sea level rise.

An Update on the G2 cloud approaching the Galactic core:

On May 2nd, astronomers A. Ghez, et al. reported on observations of the G2 Cloud which they conducted on March 19th and 20th using the Keck Infrared Telescope; see Astronomer's Telegram, Report 6110. (1)  They note that they were observing at a time the cloud should have been near its orbital periapse (closest approach to the Galactic core), and found the cloud to be still intact.

From this they concluded that the G2 cloud must contain an embedded star otherwise it could not have survived intact in the presence of the very strong gravitational tidal forces being exerted on the cloud as well as the fierce wind being put out by the galactic core.

Ghez also suggests that the G2 cloud may contain a binary star system

On the other hand....

According to astronomer Stefan Gillessen, the fact that the cloud did not brighten noticeably as it approached the galactic core casts doubt on a theory that a faint star could be hidden within it, (2) because such a star, if present, would heat up as the cloud drew closer to the core and would give off more hot, bright gas through evaporation; see article posted on the Daily Galaxy news website.

Gillessen said, "What we have observed so far is completely consistent with a simple gas cloud," basing his conclusion on the constancy of the cloud's constant luminosity.

miguel de Portugal comments: This is very legitimate scientific discrepancy (difference of opinion) - most specially considering how difficult is to gather and process the data necessary. We just publish it as a matter of interest.

We have not mentioned/discussed the G2 cloud after our initial publications because, as in today's post, we did so as a matter of interest, most specially its possible relationship with the Gamma Ray Burst (3).

As we have said in the past - we must be spiritually ready at all times because when the "global catastrophe which 'has your name' on it" hits, it will be too late to get your spiritual house in order.

Pope Francis Says He Would Baptize Martians, Asks 'Who Are We To Close Doors? (1)

Pope Francis said in his morning Mass on Monday that if Martians came to him asking to be baptized he wouldn't turn them away, Vatican radio reports.

The pope's message was one of inclusion, saying the Holy Spirit is not always predictable. He told a story from the Acts of Apostles in which Peter observes a group of non-Christians receiving the Holy Spirit. Other Christians later criticize Peter for consorting with these people, to which Pope Francis responded:

"That was unthinkable. If - for example - tomorrow an expedition of Martians came, and some of them came to us, here... Martians, right? Green, with that long nose and big ears, just like children paint them... And one says, 'But I want to be baptized!' What would happen?"

Pope Francis would not be one to turn away someone seeking baptism -- even if they were an alien. He urges clergy to foster an open door policy for all to receive church teachings.

"Who are we to close doors? In the early Church, even today, there is the ministry of the ostiary [usher]. And what did the ostiary do? He opened the door, received the people, allowed them to pass. But it was never the ministry of the closed door, never."

Pope Francis is not the first one to hint at alien baptism. Vatican scientist Guy Consolmagno suggested in 2010 that aliens might have souls and could be baptized if they asked for it.

"Any entity - no matter how many tentacles it has - has a soul," Consolmagno said in a talk preceding the British Science Festival in Birmingham.

miguel de Portugal comments:
The unpredictability of the Holy Spirit is directly proportional to one's disconnection with God.... just as Bergoglio continues to prove it to those who have Eyes to See.

Now, to the "gem" about the aliens. How would he know that a creature "green, with that long nose and big ears, just like children paint them..".  is not a vegetable or an animal from an alien world?  So what if it speaks? Even computers do!

Using Francis demology (as opposed to "theology") - What if man's best friend, a dog, has a soul like ours but cannot communicate verbally like we do because his "transmitter" (2) does not work like ours and cannot communicate with us with words? Shouldn't dogs be baptized just to be on the safe side?

Amaladoss, Jesuit Theologian In India, With Censure. (1)

The Vatican is investigating a Jesuit theologian from India for allegedly espousing unorthodox beliefs, raising new questions about whether Pope Francis - the first Jesuit pope -  is in fact moving the Catholic Church in a new direction.

News of the threatened censure of the Rev. Michael Amaladoss,....

Church sources say that Amaladoss, a highly regarded expert on interreligious dialogue and Christology, first came under scrutiny by Mueller’s office a year ago. They said Amaladoss believed that his initial responses to questions about his views on the uniqueness of Jesus and the Catholic Church had answered Vatican objections.

But in January, Mueller's office returned with a demand that Amaladoss write an article publicly endorsing the Vatican's views or face silencing. For decades, that level of severe sanction was a hallmark of the hard-line treatment of theologians under Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, who later became Pope Benedict XVI.

In early April, Amaladoss met with Mueller and other officials from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and he “agreed to rework … those issues in the light of the dialogue,” the Rev. Edward Mudavassery, who oversees the Jesuits in India, wrote in an email.

"I understand it was an open and honest meeting trying to clarify objectionable issues," Mudavassery said. "We all know that Pope Francis is a man for dialogue. It seems to me that the CDF, too, may follow this path to sort out differences because these men under the scanner are genuine and loyal to the Church and to the teachings of Jesus."

miguel de Portugal comments: Francis - open minded; inclusive; charitable and above all, Christian.  Right?

Google must erase user 'history', says European courts. (1)
EUROPE'S top court ruled (2) that Google can be forced to erase links to content about individuals on the web, ....

Under Tuesday's ruling .... individuals can request that search engines remove links to news articles, court judgments and other documents in search results for their name. National authorities can force the search engines to comply if they judge there isn't a sufficient public interest in the information, the court ruled.

The decision "makes grim reading for Google and will delight privacy advocates in the EU," said Richard Cumbley, information-management and data-protection partner at British law firm Linklaters.

The ruling was a surprise. The decision contradicted a previous opinion by one of the court's own advocates general, or senior legal advisers. That opinion, issued last year, argued that search engines like Google shouldn’t be responsible for personal data that they turn up when crawling the web for information. That move was seen at the time as a victory for Google.

miguel de Portugal comments: Yes, yes.... this is the "private" Europe where....

(a) pets carry microchips embed in their skin with information about its owner;

(b) your license plate and face are photographed and kept together in one file when entering a parking lot of a department store;

(c) where now the national ID cards are being replaced by a pan European ID card, which, of course it is not called that.... a European ID card which carries a chip with only God knows what personal information it contains and which is available to anyone who has a reader;

A Europe...

(d) that has so many security cameras everywhere that only computers can keep up with the images because of the enormous volume of images;

(e) which has countries where anyone with access to any of their IRS-equivalent computers can view all details of every single bank account associated with the Social Security-equivalent number of the individual, and on, and on, and on.....

On the face of that you may wonder why such concern about the Google search engine results.

The answer is quite simple. In the US, corruption is an exception to the rule; while in Europe that is the rule and the politicians are the first ones who would want to block those Google search engine connections who would expose any publication that may report the times when they were caught with the proverbial hand in the cookie jar.

Folks - it is really that simple!

Despite ban, abuser priest remained in ministry for 10 years. (1)

The Seattle archdiocese has been harshly criticized for not publicly releasing the name of a priest removed from ministry a decade ago for the sexual exploitation of a teen. The priest then socialized with parishioners and performed occasional baptisms, weddings and funerals despite his removal until his past recently came to the attention of some parishioners.

The former chair and vice chair of the board that reviewed sexual abuse allegations in 2004 has leveled unvarnished reproof. That case review board urged the archdiocese to make public Fr. Harry Quigg's identity and offenses.

"The investigation's documents, dating to 2004 and which the archdiocese has refused to make public, would reveal that a 17-year-old boy involved with ... Quigg was passed among the priest and friends, according to multiple sources," wrote Joel Connelly in a blog post Monday for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, an online newspaper.

A May 2 statement from the archdiocese said that now-retired Archbishop Alexander Brunett had gone against the review board's recommendation to release Quigg's name "because of the determination that the sexual contact did not involve a minor" and "Quigg's request to respect his privacy."

He didn't grab headlines or call attention to himself. Not even when, at age 77, he fearlessly refused to leave terminally ill patients in a smelly, dark and sweltering New Orleans hospital flooded by Hurricane Katrina.

But at his funeral Mass on May 5, Msgr. Ignatius Roppolo finally took center stage as hundreds filled St. Rita's church in New Orleans to mourn the passing and to celebrate the life of the parish priest and hospital chaplain they had come to cherish.

"All that he did was never about him," said homilist Msgr. Doug Dousson. "He was a giant of dedication to God and a compassionate, selfless servant of God's people."

Roppolo was remembered as a good shepherd, a healer, a priest's priest. One who did not disturb the universe, but changed lives one at a time with his extraordinary ability to listen and tap people's gifts.

The U.S. "deeply disturbed" over Sudanese woman's apostasy death sentence. (1)

The US government said it is "deeply disturbed" by the sentencing on Thursday of a pregnant Christian Sudanese woman to death by hanging for apostasy after she refused to recant her faith.

A Khartoum court convicted 27-year-old Meriam Yehya Ibrahim, who is in custody with her 20-month-old son and eight months pregnant with her second child, of the charges on 11 May and gave her three days to return to Islam.

The judge in her trial also sentenced Ibrahim to 100 lashes after convicting her of adultery as under Sudan's Islamic Shari'a law her marriage to a non-Muslim is considered invalid and therefore an adulterous relationship.

There have been no known executions for apostasy since the 1991 Sudanese Criminal Code was enacted, although many have had their charges dropped or convictions overturned after recanting their faith.

miguel de Portugal comments: Following is the letter we sent to the Sudan Tribune upon reading the above news report:

If we understand the Holy Qur'an correctly, the blind application of Islamic Shari'a Law is an insult to the Prophet Mohamed as you can see in this document.

Every quote of the Holy Qur'an that we have used was confirmed through four copies of the Holy Book in three different languages. That is, the quotations are correct and from the Holy Prophet.

Islam is indeed a Holy Faith which is being damaged by fanatics of the Shari'a Law just as Christianity was damaged in the Middle Ages!

Italy's Berlusconi says was forced from office by EU 'plot' . (1)

Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi repeated accusations on Wednesday that he was forced out of office at the height of the euro zone crisis in 2011 as the result of a "plot" by European Union officials.

Berlusconi's comments followed the publication in Italy of extracts from a new book by former U.S. Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner which suggested that EU officials had approached the U.S. government with a project to force Berlusconi to resign.

"They wanted us to refuse to back IMF loans to Italy as long as he refused to go," Geithner's book "Stress Test: Reflections on Financial Crises," was quoted as saying by daily La Stampa.

Geithner said the United States rejected the approach, saying "We can't have his blood on our hands".

Napolitano has dismissed suggestions of a plot to replace Berlusconi as "smoke".

Berlusconi has stepped up his attacks on Brussels and euro zone policy makers during the campaign for European parliamentary elections, encouraged by opinion polls which show rising dissatisfaction with the EU among many Italians.

With less than two weeks before the election on May 25, his Forza Italia party is in third place in opinion polls with about 20 percent, behind Prime Minister Matteo Renzi's center-left Democratic Party on around 34 percent and the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement on about 25.

Now we have former U.S. Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner openly denouncing it while the press uses qualifying and downplaying terms such as Tim Geithner...  suggested while Italian President Napolitano calls the revelation: "smoke".

UN debates whether we should exterminate killer robots. (1)

The UN is holding its first ever convention on killer robots – or lethal autonomous weapons systems.

Although fully self-determining attack machines have yet to be manufactured, many believe technology is moving so fast that they are just around the corner.

Some want a total ban, while others are calling for a moratorium until the systems are able to significantly reduce civilian casualties.

The 1977 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Jody Williams, explained how they would work: "If robotics were allowed to fully develop and they were autonomous – killer robots as I like to call them – they would be able to be programmed, set free and make the decisions about when, where, who and how to attack."

The concept of machines making decisions on life and death makes many feel uneasy.

NY minister to repay $1.2M in disaster funds. (1)

A New York City minister who was the subject of an Associated Press investigation about misspent 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina charity funds has agreed to repay $1.2 million that he took from his congregation to buy an 18th century farmhouse on seven acres in rural New Jersey.

The Rev. Carl Keyes and his wife, the Rev. Donna Keyes, who jointly led the Glad Tidings Tabernacle in Manhattan, signed a legal judgment Wednesday settling a probe by the New York attorney general into a series of questionable church financial transactions.

The AP reported in articles in 2011 and 2012 that Keyes had diverted some of that money into his cash-starved church, then used funds from the church and the nonprofit groups to cover hundreds of thousands of dollars in personal credit card bills and other debts. Keyes used one big donation, meant for his disaster-relief charity, Urban Life Ministries, to clear a mortgage on another New Jersey home.

Pedophile teacher abused scores as clues missed. (1)

He was one of the most beloved teachers in the small world of international schools that serve the children of diplomats, well-off American expatriates and local elites. He was often the first to arrive in the morning, and the last to leave each day. He led students on class trips to exotic places, treating them to cookies and milk at bedtime.

That was the public persona of William Vahey, carefully crafted over four decades until a maid cleaning his home in Nicaragua stole a 16-gigabyte memory drive. There, in photograph after photograph, was evidence that the model teacher had molested scores of adolescent boys, possibly more, in a four-decade career spanning 10 schools on four continents.

The discovery of a man the FBI regards as one of the most prolific pedophiles in memory has set off a crisis in the close-knit community of international schools, where horrified parents are being told their children may have been victims of a favorite teacher, and administrators are scurrying to close teacher-vetting loopholes revealed by Vahey's abuses.

Earth to experience a never-before-seen meteor shower next week end (1)

Astronomers are predicting the astronomical event of a lifetime next weekend. On 24 May 2014, Earth will pass through the debris tail of Comet 209P/LINEAR, which will unleash a myriad of cosmic explosions lighting up the night sky.

This will be the first time Earth has ever experienced this particular meteor shower. A meteor shower happens when the Earth passes through debris left in space by a comet; the chunks of rock, ice and other materials, burn up in the atmosphere to form 'shooting' or 'falling stars'.

miguel de Portugal comments: This announcement has made us realize that we are before a statistical marvel or lies so great that they defy quantification.

Besides this first-time crossing through the debris of 209P/LINEAR, we are regularly informed of the times that we pass through the debris tail of other comets.

The number of artificial satellites circling the globe vary among estimates (2), but there are between 3,200 to 3,500 functioning artificial satellites in Earth orbit. Russia has the greatest number at around 1,437. The U.S. is second with 1,099 satellites in orbit.

Such numbers do not include those from Europe, Japan and China. With that said..... statistically speaking, as the Earth sails through debris left in space by a comet, such as chunks of rock, ice and other materials, some of it should impact and seriously damage some of those man made satellites.... yet, it does not seem to ever happen... or at least reported.

If the debris are large enough to be seen as shooting stars and enough to produce a nighttime show, how come artificial satellites manage to escape the damage that logic and statistics would dictate?

Oh, yes.... we forgot...., Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 vanished right before the eyes of Global Big Brother and no one saw it..... (3)

Weather as a Force Multiplier: Owning the Weather in 2025  (1)

In a nutshell - this is a comprehensive report - dated 1996 - of a study which deals with controlling the weather as a weapon. The reports opens with the following lines:

2015 is a study designed to comply with a directive from the chief of staff of the Air Force to examine the concepts, capabilities, and technologies the United States will require to remain the dominant air and space force in the future. Presented on 17 June 1996, this report was produced in the Department of Defense school environment of academic freedom and in the interest of advancing concepts related to national defense. The views expressed in this report are those of the authors and do not reflect the official policy or position of the United States Air Force, Department of Defense, or the United States government.

This report contains fictional representations of future situations/scenarios. Any similarities to real people or events, other than those specifically cited, are unintentional and are for purposes of illustration only.

This publication has been reviewed by security and policy review authorities, is unclassified, and is cleared for public release.

miguel de Portugal comments: As we have said in the past, the real news are contained in what is not said or is hidden behind a smoke screen.

As we were conducting some formatting maintenance in some of our nearly 2,000 documents on-line, we came across what may be probably the most important news that we can report today.

Early in the year 2011 we came across the report we have just referred to above. Seeing that it was cleared for public release, yet just knowing that it may not be available exactly as it was then the for very long, we chose to download it and post it in our Domain(s).

As we were conducting the above mentioned document maintenance we found out that such document - which was composed of eight separate sections, each being made by one independent file that could be uploaded and downloaded independently of the rest - were no longer in our Domain, the mirror Domain and the Back-up Domain. The material was removed from three different servers in three different parts of the globe sometime between December 15, 2013 (2) and now.

Thus the "News" we speak about is: "Why did it (all eight sections!) mysteriously disappeared from our Domains?".

Being that the case - there must be a very important reason.... that is why we say that these "may be probably the most important news that we can report today." The report (1) is now on-line again.

El Niño: Is 2014 the new 1997? (1a)(1b)

Every ten days, the NASA/French Space Agency Jason-2 satellite maps all the world's oceans, monitoring changes in sea surface height, a measure of heat in the upper layers of the water.   Because our planet is more than 70% ocean, this information is crucial to global forecasts of weather and climate.

Lately, Jason-2 has seen something brewing in the Pacific - and it looks a lot like 1997.

"The El Niño of 1997/98 was a textbook example," recalls Patzert. "At that time we were getting data from TOPEX/Poseidon, a predecessor of Jason-2.  Sea surface maps showed a whitish bump, indicating a sea level some 10 centimeters higher than usual, moving along the equator from Australia to South America."

miguel de Portugal comments: The best way to understand/interpret the significance of the news report is by understanding what El Niño means. According to Wikipedia (2)

El Niño is a band of anomalously warm ocean water temperatures that periodically develops off the Pacific coast of South America. Extreme climate change pattern oscillations influence weather across the Pacific Ocean, which results in fluctuating droughts, floods, and crop yields in varying regions of the world.

Developing countries dependent upon agriculture and fishing, particularly those bordering the Pacific Ocean, are the most affected.

El niño is Spanish for "the boy", and the capitalized term El Niño refers to the Christ child, Jesus, because periodic warming in the Pacific near South America is usually noticed around Christmas.

Bosnia flooding triggers landslides, unearth mines. (1)

Floodwaters triggered more than 3,000 landslides across the Balkans on Sunday, laying waste to entire towns and villages and disturbing land mines leftover from the region's 1990s war, along with warning signs that marked the unexploded weapons.

The Balkans' worst flooding since record keeping began forced tens of thousands of people from their homes and threatened to inundate Serbia's main power plant, which supplies electricity to a third of the country and most of the capital, Belgrade.

Belgrade braces for flood surge. (2)

Belgrade is bracing for a river water surge that has threatened to inundate Serbia's main power plant and cause major power cuts in the capital as the Balkans struggles with the consequences of the worst flooding in southwestern Europe in more than a century.

Authorities said Monday that at least 17 people have died in Serbia in the five days of flooding caused by unprecedented torrential rain, laying waste to entire towns and villages in Serbia and Bosnia and sending tens of thousands of people out of their homes. At least another 17 people died in Bosnia.

The coal-fired Nikola Tesla power plant supplies electricity for half of Serbia and most of Belgrade. It is located in Obrenovac, the worse flood-hit town near Belgrade.

miguel de Portugal comments: Mary appeared in Medjugorje (3) with the usual messages - prayer, fasting penitence - to avoid catastrophes. Medjugorje at the time was part of Yougoslavia which eventually became Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina after much blood was shed in the Balkans. Since then misery has continued to rain upon those people who.... obviously did a terrific business out of Mary's visit but little else.

Mary appeared in Kibeho (4) with the usual messages - prayer, fasting, penitence to avoid a blood bath. The apparition was quickly approved but little else was done. The horrific Rwanda masscre ensued.

Mary appeared in Akita (5), Japan with the usual messages - prayer, fasting penitence - to avoid catastrophes. That was another apparition which was quickly approved by the local ordinary, but little else was done. Who has not heard of the earthquake, the tsunami and the destruction in the Fukushima nuclear plant in Japan which is not far from Akita?

>From 1990 to 1998 Heaven delivered valid (6) message after message in Conyers (US). An hour long video was released in 1996 with the very appropriate title: "Wake Up America!". Since "Religious Tourism" to Conyers was not as appealing as to those in ex-US exotic places, once the messages stopped the whole thing was essentially forgotten. Of course, since then America has awakened, not to God, but to to 9-11, lost wars everywhere and a string of natural catastrophes that defy any Hollywood disaster super production.

Etc., Etc.....

UN panel slams Vatican on priest sex abuse scandal. (1)

A United Nations committee concluded Friday that the Vatican has effective worldwide control over bishops and priests who must comply with a U.N. anti-torture treaty, a finding that could expose the Catholic Church to new lawsuits by victims of clerical sex abuse.

The opinion from the U.N. Committee Against Torture, which oversees the international treaty on torture and other forms of degrading treatment, said Vatican officials failed to report abuse charges properly, moved priests rather than discipline them, and failed to pay adequate compensation to victims.

In at least 50 cases, panel members said, the Committee Against Torture has referred to rape and sexual violence, which clearly falls within the treaty's mandate on a case-by-case basis.

The committee said the Vatican must ensure that the treaty isn't violated by its officials and others "in any situation in which they exercise jurisdiction or effective control."

How easy is it to indoctrinate students? Easy! (1)

Suppose that an authoritarian government decides to embark on a program of curricular reform, with the explicit goal of indoctrinating the nation's high school students. Suppose that it wants to change the curriculum to teach students that their government is good and trustworthy, that their system is democratic and committed to the rule of law, and that free markets are a big problem.

Will such a government succeed? Or will high school students simply roll their eyes?

Questions of this kind have long been debated, but without the benefit of reliable evidence. New research, from Davide Cantoni of the University of Munich and several co-authors, shows that recent curricular reforms in China, explicitly designed to transform students' political views, have mostly worked.

The findings offer remarkable evidence about the potential influence of the high school curriculum on what students end up thinking - and they give us some important insights into contemporary China as well.

miguel de Portugal comments: Imagine! If to that we add high tech gadgetry - video games, movies, subliminal messages and holographic performances - the proverbial sky is the limit with hell being the destination.

Santa Barbara killer's parents raced to stop him after receiving disturbing emails. (1)

The danger signs were there, therapists were involved, relatives were concerned and the police were warned.

Sheriff's deputies even visited Elliot Rodger in his apartment on April 30 after his mother saw disturbing YouTube videos her son had posted on the Internet.

But nothing stopped the sex-obsessed college student from arming himself with semiautomatic handguns and terrorizing a Southern California town.

"He was getting help consistently since he was 8 or 9 years old," a Rodger family friend told the Daily News on Sunday as police faced questions over the 22-year-old virgin's bloody rampage, which left six victims dead and another 13 wounded.

The Friday night spree was almost averted, said the friend, Simon Astaire. Upon receiving a harrowing email from their son, Rodger's parents raced up from Los Angeles to Santa Barbara County in a frantic bid to stop their son's massacre, which ended when he apparently shot himself in the head.

The horror left Santa Barbara County Sheriff Bill Brown grasping for answers.

"Obviously, looking back on this, it's a very tragic situation, and we certainly wish that we could turn the clock back and maybe change some things," Brown told CBS, admitting deputies had checked on Rodger at his Isla Vista home last month.

miguel de Portugal comments: What other notice/warning was necessary for the authorities to catch on? But try to board a plane with 15 ml of holy water in you hand luggage and they will stop you.

This, brethren, is how blind and pathetically stupid humanity has become. They still do not get it!

I was still a virgin at 22 and that was not a problem. Why? Because I was well accepted and made friends - male and female - everywhere I went, and had all the girlfriends I could possibly want. (2)

That boy's problem was his feeling of rejection which, when augmented by his mind, caused him to try harder thus increasing the rejection of others. In many cases "trying harder" becomes "being pushy" which is an automatic "turn off" to those around us.

Listen to Sheriff Brown - "Obviously, looking back on this, it's a very tragic situation, and we certainly wish that we could turn the clock back and maybe change some things,"

They just can't get it!

Pope Francis concludes Holy Land visit in Israel. (1)

miguel de Portugal comments: Once gain we wish to point out the fact of how safe and trouble free was Bergoglio's visit to the probably most explosive - religiously speaking - part of the world.

Not even an egg or a tomato was thrown his way in a place which is a breeding ground for religious fanatics of all denominations.

Why? for the same reason no attack on Adolph Hitler (2) or Fidel Castro (and others of the same ilk) were orhave been successful.... and Mr. Castro is the "King" mixing with the mobs without any protection.

Obviously causing harm has one root source - evil, and what did Jesus teach us about this?

And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself: how then shall his kingdom stand? [Matthew 12:26]

And if Satan be risen up against himself, he is divided, and cannot stand, but hath an end. [Mark 3:26]

But if the authorities could not see the signs in Elliot Rodgers, how can we expect most of the people, who have been brainwashed into thinking that a Pope is a demigod, to see the signs of the Ratzinger-Bergoglio combo everywhere.

It has been a night of seismic shocks for Europe as the election counts came in from all over the EU.

The exit polls indicated that eurosceptics were scooping up the majority of the votes in some of the biggest member states, yet the head of the largest pro-European party in parliament (EPP), still saw it as a reason for celebration.

In France the far-right National Front swept away the two mainstream parties with 25% of the vote, standing on a platform against the EU, the euro, and immigration, whipping up feelings of nationalism in her rhetoric.

"Our people demand a single politics, the politics of French people for French people, with French people," declared Marine Le Pen, continuing, "They no longer want to be directed externally, be submitted to laws they have not voted for, nor obey Commissioners who are not subjected to the legitimacy of universal suffrage".

The question remains whether the eurosceptic politicians will be able to form a Euro Tea Party group which could disrupt the Brussels’ assembly, but impact may be felt closer to home.

Future cyberattacks to cause more trouble than Heartbleed. (1)

Many of these future attacks could take advantage of vulnerabilities similar to Heartbleed, a major Internet security flaw which allows attackers to gain access to encrypted passwords, credit card details, and other data on trusted Web sites including Facebook, Gmail, Instagram, and Pinterest.

A new report released by CSIRO at CeBIT's Cyber Security Conference, held earlier this month in Sydney, Australia, said that hackers could soon use similar holes in computer security to shut down energy grids, disrupt public services, and steal vast amounts of private data worth billions of dollars, unless institutions take measures today to ready themselves against future Heartbleed-like threats.

"The sheer complexity and interconnectedness of different elements of our digital economy means we can expect rapid exponential growth in the number, speed, and severity of breaches — far beyond what any single organization can tackle on its own." said James Deverell, director, CSIRO Futures.

"The more we rely on digital services for our basic needs like healthcare and energy, the more drastic the consequences of any breach may be," said Deverell.

Vitamin E could protect you from radiation. (1)

Worried about the potential risks of radiation exposure? A member of the vitamin E family found in palm oil might prove to be the solution to this problem.

We are being bombarded by invisible rays all the time, wherever we are.

Known as radiation, these rays can come in the form of sunlight, microwaves, radio waves, electromagnetic waves from mobile phones and laptops, X-rays and gamma rays, among others.

On average, human beings are exposed to about 2.4 millisieverts (mSv) of radiation a year from natural sources, i.e. the earth and outer space.

However, the amount of this inescapable background radiation varies greatly according to geographic location.

For example, the WNA reports that some 140,000 people living in the Indian states of Kerala and Madras are annually exposed to an average of 30 mSv of background radiation from gamma rays and radon – one of the largest populations exposed to such high amounts of radiation.

As a comparison, a regular chest X-ray gives 0.2 mSv of radiation.

miguel de Portugal comments: Obviously these people have never heard of "Murphy's Law".

Murphy's law is an adage or epigram that is typically stated as: Anything that can go wrong will go wrong.

The only exception to said law is when we abandon ourselves to the Will of God and allow ourselves to be guided by His Holy Spirit.

Otherwise - Watch out!

Incidentally, awareness of this "law" was a great help when I was practicing engineering. Whenever we analyzed the potential problems that could arise from anything new in the petrochemical industry, we assumed that Murphy's law would always apply, therefore we expected the worse, prepared for it and usually came out "smelling like a rose".

It was always a challenge to beat Murphy's Law!

Father Helps Stone to Death Pregnant Daughter. (1)

"Stoned to death" doesn't quite capture it. Those who murdered a 25-year-old pregnant Pakistani woman outside a court in Lahore used bricks from a nearby construction site to kill her, reports AP.

And it somehow gets worse: The 20 or so attackers included her father, brothers, and other relatives who were outraged that she married a man of her own choosing.

"I killed my daughter as she had insulted all of our family by marrying a man without our consent, and I have no regret over it," the father told police.
A Pakistani rights group estimates that 1,000 women die each year in so-called honor killings, though Reuters reports that the actual figure is probably much higher.

It also highlights what one critic calls a 'huge flaw" in Pakistani law: The killers often go unpunished because the rest of the family is allowed to formally forgive them.

miguel de Portugal comments: Let us not mince words. A country which has such "huge flaw" in its legal system, and goes uncorrected, is a country under satan's full grip..... a country which the wise Western Powers allowed to become a nuclear state!

Their behavior is an insult - institutionally and individually - to Holy Islam and their Holy Prophet Mohammed.

And some still wonder why God has been left with no other choice than to annihilate most of humanity!

P.S. If her family had chosen to marginalize the daughter and her husband from the family circles because of  marrying a man without their consent, that, although not in keeping with 21st century mores, would have been a completely different story. Customs which do not violate Divine Law are to be respected even though one may not agree with them. More about this in future posts.

Astronomers All Atwitter (1)

A powerful flash of gamma rays, apparently coming from the Andromeda Galaxy, has set astronomers abuzz over the possibility that a clashing pair of neutron stars or a bright X-ray source is acting up a mere 2.5 million light-years away.

The event was registered by NASA's Swift satellite on Tuesday, and within hours the report sparked a flurry of Twitter updates.

At first, astronomers speculated that the flash was a gamma-ray burst, which ranks among the most powerful explosions in the universe. Such blasts, thought to be caused by the collision of neutron stars or black holes, are extremely rare - and none has been detected so close before.

Edward Snowden wants you to call him what he is: a trained government spy. (1)

Edward Snowden has been called a variety of things: whistleblower, patriot, traitor. But when it comes to his technical expertise, he's usually just referred to as a hacker, contractor or some flavor of system administrator.

That, Snowden says, doesn't do his role and background justice. In an excerpt of an NBC interview, Snowden asserts that he's a technical expert "trained as a spy in sort of the traditional sense of the word," worked undercover and overseas for the CIA and NSA, lectured at a counterintelligence training academy and implemented systems for the government "at all levels."

According to the infamous whistleblower, he qualifies as a spy in the classic sense since he "lived and worked undercover overseas - pretending to work in a job that I'm not - and even being assigned a name that was not mine."

So, how does Snowden claim Uncle Sam gets away with obscuring his experience? By pointing to the less illustrious portions of his resume, of course. "But what they're trying to do, is they're trying to use one position that I've had in a career here or there to distract from the totality of my experience," Snowden explained. "So when they say that I'm a low-level systems administrator, that I don't know what I'm talking about, I'd say it's somewhat misleading."

miguel de Portugal comments: Now, let's understand this. He is building up the position he had within the NSA, thus clearly acknowledging that he knew very well what he was doing.... and did it, over and over again and for which he received ample sums of money.

Then he turns around and bites the hand that was feeding him even though he knew what he was doing.

This reminds us of a well paid prostitute, who knew that she/he was selling sexual favors and then turns around and call his/her clients perverts?

Doesn't Snowden realize that once he took the step of betraying NSA, he announced to the world that he was/is a prostitute? Selling one's body or principles - there is no difference before the Holy Eyes of God.

Amazing, simply amazing!

One can have a change of heart (don't I know that!!) at any time and refuse to serve Mammon any more.

In his situation - if he one day had an illumination as to how wrong was whatever he was doing for NSA, he should have immediately resigned and quietly look for employment elsewhere.

But no! The "Diva" wanted the occupy center stage.

Airports resist bolstering perimeter security because of cost. (1)

Last month's security breach at Mineta San Jose Airport, in which a teenager entered the airfield and hid in the wheel well of a Maui-bound flight, has highlighted concerns about the security of airport perimeters.

Perimeter intrusions are common at airports, but airports resist pressures to improve perimeter protection because of the costs involved. Experts note that if we were to string all of the U.S. airport perimeters together, we would approach the length of the U.S. border with Mexico and security expenditures approaching a billion dollars.

These experts say that airports are not likely to invest heavily in perimeter security until a serious disaster due to lax perimeter security occurs. "Show me a body count, and we'll build a fence," said one airport administrator.

German scientists make it possible to fly a plane with your brain. (1)

Mind control technology gives you the capability to do things you didn't think possible -- like piloting a plane even if you have zero flying experience. A team of researchers from the Technische Universität München and the TU Berlin in Germany have not only developed the technology to fly planes with thoughts alone, but also demonstrated how precise it is.

The scientists, led by Professor Florian Holzapfel, had seven subjects (one with no cockpit experience at all) use a flight simulator, and apparently, they all navigated the virtual skies with enough accuracy to pass a flying license test.

To make the brain-to-plane communication possible, the group outfitted the subjects with a cap connected to EEG electrodes. Signals from the subjects' brains were then translated into commands using an algorithm developed by the TU Berlin scientists.

According to Tim Fricke, head of this EU-funded project called Brainflight, the research's long-term goal is to make flying more accessible to more people. .... in the meantime, the technology could make flying safer as it gives pilots the freedom to do more tasks in the cockpit.

A staged Second Coming to depose Castro in Cuba. (1)

In a 2002 biography of Robert F. Kennedy, author Evan Thomas explored some of the anti-Castro plans that came across RFK's desk in his role as Attorney General. The CIA had been devising a number of ways to oust Castro under the code name "Operation Mongoose."

One of these ideas was cooked up by a brigadier general in the Air Force named Edward Lansdale. As the New York Times reported, Lansdale "thought that the people of Cuba could be convinced, through rumors, that the Second Coming was at hand, if only the satanic Castro were overthrown."

In a 1975 paper titled "Alleged Assassination Plots Involving Foreign Leaders," a report put together by intelligence officials for a Senate subcommittee, a 24-year vet of the CIA named Thomas Parrott went into more detail regarding Lansdale's plan:

This plan consisted of spreading the word that the Second Coming of Christ was imminent and that Christ was against Castro who was anti-Christ. And you would spread this word around Cuba, and then on whatever date it was, that there would be a manifestation of this thing. And at the time – this was absolutely true – and at the time just over the horizon there would be an American submarine that would surface off of Cuba and send up some star-shells. And this would be the manifestation of the Second Coming and Castro would be overthrown.

Another account of the plan suggest that American war planes would fly above the clouds, unseen, at a moment coordinated with the star shell bursts. They’d be broadcasting a voice (purportedly of Jesus) telling the people below to forsake Communism. A further account asserts that the plan involved an actor portraying Jesus was to make his way to shore while the rest of this show was in full display. While neither of those accounts cite to a source for those details, if one is going to fake a major religious moment, there’s really no reason to stop with a light show.

miguel de Portugal comments: Already in 1962 - 54 years ago! - a falsified Second Coming of Christ was being considered for political and economic reasons. Do you realize how much has technology (and evil) advanced in 54 years?

Do we need to call in Daniel for a detailed explanation?

Oh, by the way - from inside information we can assure you that such plan would have failed worse than the Bay of Pigs invasion. Obviously the turnip trucks have been on the road for quite some time!

How Google got states to legalize driverless cars. (1)

In March 2012, State Senator Padilla rode in the driver's seat of a Google car with Levandowski riding shotgun to the news conference announcing his legislation. Some inside the Capitol concluded that Padilla was most attuned to Google.

One thing that troubled Howard Posner, then the staffer on the Assembly Transportation Committee responsible for analyzing the bill and suggesting improvements, was that Padilla's legislation would let cars operate without a human present.

Posner argued that lawmakers shouldn't authorize this last step until the technology could handle it. The response, he said, was that Padilla didn't want to do that - "which in my mind meant Google was not willing to do that."

In September 2012, Gov. Jerry Brown went to Google's headquarters and signed Padilla's bill.

Now, California's motor vehicles officials face an end-of-year deadline to write regulations that will allow driverless cars to go from testing to use by the public in June 2015.

At a DMV hearing in March, two Google representatives sat next to DMV staff at the head tables. Their message: Now that self-driving cars were legal, the state should not regulate them too strictly.

miguel de Portugal comments: By the time Congress and the general public realize that the real threat is Google and not the NSA/CIA, combo it will be too late!

If I were in charge of the NSA, I would have a department exclusively dedicated to monitor Google.

Right on schedule!
